WICKS RESERVE

Public BBQ

Wicks Reserve sits in The Basin, a quiet bushland spot that connects to Wicks East Nature Reserve and surrounding walking areas. The reserve is set among gum trees with two separate picnic areas, both featuring BBQ facilities under older-style covered shelters. The hotplates at the lower area work well, though the upper ones get mixed feedback. Electric cooktops are available. Walking tracks branch off in different directions, leading into proper bushland where visitors regularly spot birds, native plants, and fungi depending on the season. Brown tree frogs have been found here. The entry can be tricky to locate initially. A small playground keeps kids entertained while families use the multiple picnic areas. The place rarely gets crowded. Access involves a short dirt road section in reasonable condition, though parking space is limited. Public toilets are on-site, though maintenance varies and lighting is only in the disabled toilet. Drainage is an issue. The grounds stay saturated, and the playground area plus back rotunda often end up soaked.
